Fall 2016 First General Meeting

• What is EWB?

Engineers Without Borders USA builds a better world through engineering projects that
empower communities to meet their basic human needs and equip leaders to solve the
world’s most pressing challenges.

Faculty Adviser- Dr. Shipley

• Peru Water System Project

The purpose of our project in Peru is to provide potable water to the community of Viña
Vieja with the use of a well located in the middle of the community.
Viña Vieja is a small rural community, home to around ninety families, in the southwest
region of Peru. In 2007, two consecutive earthquakes struck Viña Vieja and caused
severe structural damage in the community.
EWB UTSA started the project in 2011 and we are now at the final implementation
stage.We need to trench the pathway and lay down about 3.5 miles of PVC and steel pipe
along the main road.Finalize the design of the submersible and booster pumps. Finalize the piping network design along with an outlet to each home.
